Abstract:
Literature is an important example of culture for a society. It is the duty of every Tamil to share with the global Tamils and others and pass it on to future generations. We have transferred Tamil, which was written on rocks, palm leaves and paper for ages, to the electronic library. This Tamil will not go away with the flood; Does not boil with sandalwood; The planet cannot take it. Although the idea of the Internet was discussed at the beginning of the 20th century, it became possible only in the 1960s. When the US Department of Defense invented the Internet in the 1960s, no one, including scientists, could have dreamed that the Internet would have such an impact on our lives. Since then, Internet technology has seen tremendous growth, history. The breadth of Internet technology and its immense potential have made undreamed-of capabilities possible today. Our pursuit of knowledge and learning today is completely dependent on the Internet. With the internet, learning has become easier. Learning and the pursuit of knowledge have become the passion of the students. The Internet library is an extension of the healthy changes that the Internet is bringing about in the education sector. This will take the learning of our generation students to the next level. Let’s move forward in life using the Internet Library.
In this article we will deeply research the internet library and how it can improve our language skills.
Keywords: Literature, Internet technology, Knowledge, Education, Passion.
1. Introduction:
An Internet Library is the collection of services and the collection of information objects that support users in dealing with information objects and the organization and presentation of those objects available directly or indirectly via electronic/digital means. Although the idea of the Internet was discussed at the beginning of the 20th century, it became possible only in the 1960s. When the US Department of Defense invented the Internet in the 1960s under the name ARPANET, no one, including scientists, could have dreamed that the Internet would have such an impact on our lives. In 1991, the Tim Berners-Lee partnership invented the World Wide Web (WWW) and released it to the public under the name of the Internet. Since then, Internet technology has seen tremendous growth, history.
The breadth of Internet technology and its immense potential have made undreamed-of capabilities possible today. One such possibility is the National Electronic Library (NDLI) developed on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Union Government for the use of students and for human resource development of India.
2. Background of Internet Library:
National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of all kinds of learning resources. This library is developed, operated and maintained by IIT Kharagpur. Implemented by NMEICT, this library project is led by the Ministry of Education, Union Government.
2.1 Characteristics of Internet Library:
Internet library collections contain permanent documents. The digital environment will enable quick handling and/or ephemeral information. Internet libraries are based on digital technologies. The assumption that internet libraries will contain only digital materials may be wrong. Internet libraries are often used by individuals working alone. The physical boundaries of data have been eliminated. Support for communications and collaboration is as important as information-seeking. Compression of data storage is enabling publication and storage of digital information.
2.2 Function of Internet Library:
- Access to large amounts of information to users wherever they are and whenever they need it.
- Access to primary information sources.
- Support multimedia content along with text.
- Network accessibility on Intranet and Internet.
- User-friendly interface.
- Hypertext links for navigation.
- Client-server architecture.
- Advanced search and retrieval.
- Integration with other Internet Library.
2.3 Purpose of Internet Library:
- Expedite the systematic development of procedures to collect, store, and organize, information in digital form.
- Promote efficient delivery of information economically to all users.
- Encourage co-operative efforts in research resource, computing, and communication networks.
- Strengthen communication and collaboration between and among educational institutions.
- Take leadership role in the generation and dissemination of knowledge.
- Components:
The components of internet library are:
- Infrastructure
- Digital Collection
- Systems function
- Telecommunication facility
- Human resources
3. How to use the Internet Library?
Those who wish to use this internet library should visit the website https://ndl.iitkgp.ac.in/ and register as a member. Members will be provided with a unique username and password to log in to this library. Using it members can go into the internet library and download their required e-books and avail. Develop knowledge. Ability can also be improved.
3.1 Planning for Internet Library:
An Internet library committee should be formed to plan for its creation and maintenance. The members must be from various library departments, and, if necessary, consultants can be hired. There are at least two ways of developing a internet library: converting a traditional library into a internet library, and direct development of a internet library.
Planning includes:
- IT Infrastructure
- Digitization
- Access
- Staffing
- Furniture, equipment, and space
- Services
- Funding
4. Efficient search of Internet Library:
This e-library offers a wide range of services to students of various levels, with efficient search facility and hassle-free browsing. The library is designed to be search efficient so that learners can find the data/texts they need with minimal effort and in less time.
In internet libraries searching is done by a computer, rather than by a person, but essentially the same techniques are used. The difference is that things happen faster. Usually it is possible to keep a list of terms in the computer’s main memory, and the list can be searched in a matter of microseconds. When the computer’s equivalent of the concordance entry becomes too large to store in main memory, secondary storage (usually a disk) is accessed to obtain the list of references, which typically takes a few milliseconds.
4.1 Creation of Digital Resources:
- Database of digital material that is open to all users over the campus-wide LAN.
- High bandwidth Internet connectivity.
- Focus selectively on acquiring digital resources.
- Electronic journals and gradual elimination of print subscriptions.
- Licensed databases.
- Creation of local digital content available within the university.
5. Languages used in Internet Library:
This library is compiled based on best practices in use around the world. Content of any language can be collected in it. The library works in 11 languages including Tamil, English, Malayalam and Hindi which are widely used in India. Thus, users can search for what they need in their own language.
A stunning collection of Internet Library:
Books and data compiled from various sources for the learning and research of researchers are piled up like a mountain in this library. The library is overflowing with books, articles, videos, audios, dissertations, and a wide range of educational information.
6. Advantages of Internet Library:
The advantages of digital libraries include
- Nearly unlimited storage space at a much lower cost
- Re-allocate funds from some staff, collection maintenance, and additional books.
- No physical boundary
- Round the clock availability
- Multiple access
- Enhanced information retrieval.
- Preservation for some print material
- Added value
- Universal accessibility
Who is it for?
This library has the facility to provide specific services to school, college students, job seekers, competitive exam preparers etc. as per their requirement. The library provides services to researchers, lifelong learners, people with disabilities in all disciplines and at all levels of education.
7. Limitations of Internet Library:
- Lack of screening or validation
- Lack of preservation of a fixed copy (for the record and for duplicating scientific research)
- Lack of preservation of “best in class”
- Difficulty in knowing and locating everything that is available, and differentiating valuable from useless information.
- Job loss for traditional publishers and librarians
- Costs are spread and many become hidden.
8. Extension of changes in Internet Library:
Our pursuit of knowledge and learning today is completely dependent on the Internet. With the internet, learning has become easier. Learning and the pursuit of knowledge have become the passion of the students. The Internet Library is an extension of the healthy changes that the Internet is bringing about in the education sector. This will take the learning of our generation students to the next level. Improve their skills.
9. Conclusion:
There will be continuing expansion of internet library activities. LIS and computer science professionals face challenges that will lead to improved systems. More and more libraries will have departments and programs in the digital library arena. Digital libraries will build upon work being done in the information and data management area. Internet libraries provide an effective means to distribute learning resources to students and other users. Planning an internet library requires thoughtful analysis of the organization and its users, and an acknowledgement of the cost and the need for infrastructure and ongoing maintenance (Adams, Jansen, and Smith 1999). Internet Libraries present opportunities and challenges for the library and information communities and all stakeholders.
