Introduction
Technology has impacted almost everyday of human life and education is no exception. Technology has profoundly changed education. In olden days, Individuals had to travel to centers of learning to get an education. Today, massive amounts of information are available at one’s fingertips through the Internet. Technology is a powerful tool that can support and transform education in many ways, from making it easier for teachers to create instructional materials to enabling new ways for people to learn and work together. With the worldwide reach of the Internet and the ubiquity of smart devices that can connect to it, a new age of anytime anywhere education is dawning. It will be up to instructional designers and educational technologies to make the most of the opportunities provided by technology to change education so that effective and efficient education is available to everyone everywhere.
Role of Technology in Education
Traditional method of teaching, the teachers controls whole class where they teach and take complete responsibility of the learning environment. In traditional method of teaching, teacher asks students to recite the content from the textbook and used to tell them to recite everything in front of each and every student. But, now has changed everything, not just for future professionalism but to all those enthusiastic teachers and professors which used to teach every concept thoroughly. This has made a big change in the education as well as in its quality. Teachers now use technological devices such as mobiles and laptops for teaching purpose. Students do typically searching their time for finding online resources required for their studies. Technology also reduces the amount of work on teachers as well as students.
Technology provides students with access to countless online resources encouraging them to allow research a peculiar topic of interest and therefore they turn out to be more independent as it simplifies learning by making concepts more digestible through an instructional funny video and audio clips. This makes learning interesting and cater the individual needs of the students. In addition, technology in the classroom provides students with opportunities to develop skills. Technology has completely changed the way we teach and learn. Today, students can access information that was previously available only in the classroom. They can take tests where the teachers are not present. They can participate in class discussions without being physically present.
Tools Used in Education
In today’s schools and classrooms learning with technology is of utmost importance. The world wide educational systems, researchers, parents, governments, leaders, and teachers considered the technology to be a dire need of the child’s education. In Australia it was recognized that the technological advances influence the people’s way of sharing, creating, using and developing information in the society. The young people must be highly skilled in using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The teachers who are teaching since many years can integrate with the recently graduated teachers. The reason behind this is that recently graduated teacher are well aware of the technology and can benefit their colleagues. These two groups of teachers can work together for planning lessons that use the strengths of the teaching and learning process of both.
For making the teaching-learning process more effective the teacher uses various technological tools for the learners and the technological tools help enrich the effective teaching-learning process. Teachers in the teaching-learning process can use these modern technologies to build their assessment, to convey the tasks to those students for which it is made.
The following tools are used in education in various Schools and Colleges,
- Easy class Teams
- Zoom Classrooms
- Microsoft Teams
- 4.Near pod
- Google Form
- Mentimeter
- Google Classrooms
- Youtube videos
- Google Hangouts Meet
Apart from all these, we can also make use of synchronous mode where the teacher and learners both are present at the same time and asynchronous mode is also there where teaching and learning material is posted online and learners can learn whenever they get the time and according to the wish they can learn. Educators can record their course video lectures and then they can upload them on any learning management system. Some instructors can use various social media sites for their content display like they can make groups on Facebook, WhatsApp and many others also.
Benefits of Technology in Education
Technology provides students with easy-to-access information, accelerated learning, and fun
opportunities to practice what they learn. It enables students to explore new subjects and deepen their
understanding of difficult concepts, particularly in STEM. Through the use of technology inside and
outside the classroom, students can gain 21st-century technical skills necessary for future occupations. Still, children learn more effectively with direction. In collaborative activities, students can share their thoughts and ideas and support each other. At the same time, technology enables one-on-one interaction with teachers.
Technology allows 24/7 access to educational resources. Classes can take place entirely online via the use of a laptop or mobile device. Hybrid versions of learning combine the use of technology from anywhere with regular in-person classroom sessions. Curiosity helps students get a better understanding of math and reading concepts. Creating engaging content can involve the use of AR, videos, or podcasts.
Teachers can leverage technology to achieve new levels of productivity, implement useful digital tools to expand learning opportunities for students, and increase student support and engagement.
Teachers looking to make the transition and acquire the skills to incorporate technology in education can take advantage of learning opportunities to advance their competencies. Technology has completely changed the way we teach and learn.
This increased level of interactivity brings knowledge full circle. Students not only learn through books, they also learn through the experiences of others. This is why they are able to learn and retain more knowledge than previous generations. In addition, technology in the classroom provides students with opportunities to develop skills that will help them in the world outside school. For example, digital cameras have been used to help students in journalism class to report local events for school newspapers. And, the Internet has created new communities where students can share their interests and learn from each other.
Teachers now use technological devices such as mobiles and laptops for teaching purpose. Students do typically searching their time for finding online resources required for their studies. Technology also reduces the amount of work on teachers as well as students.
Problems in Using Technology in Education
Teachers want to improve student performance, and technology can help them accomplish this aim. To mitigate the challenges, administrators should help teachers gain the competencies needed to
enhance learning for students through technology. Additionally, technology in the classroom should
make teachers’ jobs easier without adding extra time to their day. Use of technology also has demerits related to it. Technology, when it is used for ill cause, turns out to be hazardous for student as well as teachers. Students look for various unwanted subjects on the internet, wasting ample amount of time. Allowing students to surf the internet doesn’t always mean that all things they search for will be good for their minds as well as for studies.
The advancement in technology in terms of education would be a big bane like thing if the person does not uses the tool properly. A study has shown that students are more reluctant on mobile phones for gaming as well as doing ill activities as their usage exceeds to more than 9 hours daily. It can lead to blurred vision, anxiety and headaches as well.
Also, due to increase in dependency on social media platforms can cause various mental health related problems in the first place. It can affect his neurological system as well. A strange incident associated with the obsession of selfies led to a consequence of death. This implies that students may have a profound dependency to social media platforms. And if this happens in short span of time, it is referred to as addiction, which is difficult to eradicate.
In today’s high-tech world, where social media is a easy to go with option for escaping realities of the world, has seriously broken the concentration of the physical as well as mental health. Too much time spent on social media is creating a maniac arousal of problems.
To sum up the things whether it is a boon or bane, technology can act as both boon as well as bane as it is depended on the person who uses it with a profound timetable. Advancement in technology can allow a person to utilize maximum resources but it can create hurdles by affecting different spheres of life. That is why you should manage your social media time usage as well.
So, technology is both boon as well as bane.
Conclusion
The technology in education should supports the students to ensure better learning. This is usually not enough to help teachers, and assessing the impact of learning may require continuous professional development and support. The technology in education is often more effective than replacing traditional learning. Technology will not fall into a vacuum.
Therefore, it is important to carefully define the technical activities that will replace the content that students normally experience or otherwise. In order for online education to succeed in India, we need to change the attitude of the entire education sector and employers, because it has not yet won their favor. We still have a few kilometers to go before we can proudly say that for us, certificates and titles are just documents that value human knowledge. Therefore, in order to meet the needs of Indian students, we have proposed a hybrid model that must combine the actual presence and skills of teachers.
